This Graphics Project includes three main components:
a graphic that you create using Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, FireWorks, GIMP or some other graphics program, or a similar product using online tools,
Design a JPEG graphic, 200 pixels by 200 pixels, depicting a four-letter, non-obscene word. Avoid using pictures or images; the text itself should function as the image in the sense that the font, color, arrangement, and any special effects you use should all help to convey what you see as the meaning of the word.
Save the image as as yourlastnamegp.jpg(The image file size must be less than 100K.)
OR
Choice #2
Create a JPG collage of two or more images that represents or conveys your interpretation of a quotation that you have selected. These should be copyright-free images. (Use your digital camera if you wish, but NOT family photos.)
Avoid using any text in the image, aside from the quotation itself; you should incorporate the quotation into the image and NOT simply place the quotation outside of the image. The maximum dimension for the image (height and/or width) is 800 pixels.
Save the image as as yourlastnamegp.jpg(The image file size must be less than 100K.)
OR
Choice #3
Propose an idea for your Graphics Project to your instructor! For example, create or modify an image using an online image editor such as those we looked at in Graphics Activity # 3. This must be project-worthy, i.e, beyond just a simple activity. It must be a serious project, similar to choices #1 and #2 above.
Post the image on a selected site (if necessary) and make certain that everyone can view it. Provide the URL for the site and post the image on your wiki page.
II. Written Component: Project Report
This part of the assignment asks you to discuss your graphic and the process of creating it. You should use the following sections in your report:
Meanings
Provide an overview of the meanings or messages that you intended to convey in your graphic. For example, how does your graphic present a specific interpretation of the quotation? What other interpretations are there, and why did you choose the particular interpretation that you did?
Processes
Describe the process you used in creating the graphic. How did you start? How did you know when you were done? What do you see as the strengths and weaknesses of the process you used? How does the process you used to create the graphic compare to your creative process when writing essays, for example?
Choices
Discuss the reasons behind the choices that you made in the graphic project. For example, why did you choose each image in your collage? What were you hoping to achieve with any modifications you made to the images? What alternatives did you consider for the “4-letter word”?
Post your image and the project report on a new wiki page entitled "gp". Link to that new page from your wiki navigation.
(For Choice #2 or 3, if you downloaded images from the Internet or acquired them elsewhere, cite the sources. Be sure to use copyright-free and/or Creative Commons images.)
This assignment is due as soon as possible and at the latest by midnight, Thursday, September 3. Let your instructor know when you have posted your Graphics Project!
